Daniel “Dan” Lovil, 74, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, NV after an eight month battle with cancer. He was born in Santa Monica, CA on August 1, 1948.

Dan joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966 and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968.

Post Vietnam, Dan entered the field of radio and television production. He had a natural voice for radio and spent the early part of his career as a disc jockey in Southern California.

In 1970, Dan moved to Las Vegas and attended UNLV earning his master’s degree in Communications Studies in the mid 1970’s. He taught communication and television production classes and later directed and edited Las Vegas City Council, County Commission meetings and many years of projects with UNLV-TV.

Dan became a member of IATSE Local 720 in 1971 and spent nearly 50 years of his life working as a video tape operator in the television production industry for numerous entertainment and sports events across the country and abroad.  His work earned him an Emmy on the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, for which he was most proud.

His sense of humor, intelligence and curiosity for life will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.  He was regarded as a member of the family with his friends in the television industry and at his favorite hangout, Calico Jack’s.

Dan is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Lovil, father, Rommie D. Lovil and brothers Rommie J. and Thomas Lovil.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor in the coming months.  Friends and colleagues will be notified once a date has been determined.
