Robert “Bob” Kirby Hammer, 83,  passed away on November 13, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was born October 9,1940 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Walter and Dora (Haines) Hammer. He was a former resident of Zanesville, Indiana, Idaho, Montana, McCarthy, Alaska, and Cookeville, Tennessee.

Bob graduated from Lafayette Central High School in 1960 and later joined the Indiana State Army National Guard before being honorably discharged.

He was a brick mason by trade, but also worked on the Alaskan Pipeline as a carpenter for several years. While he was in Alaska, he was also a bush pilot and large game hunters’ guide.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, trapping and fishing. He was at home in the woods and mountains.  He had great stories of the many hunts and adventures he lhad experienced. Bob was an artist, both with designing and creating furniture, lamps, clocks, and other unique showpiece-quality items. This was also evident in the three log cabins he built and lived in and enjoyed in Alaska and Tennessee. He had a keen eye for natural beauty, and incorporated items found in nature into everything he made.

Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Herman W. Hammer.

He is survived by his brother, Guy Hammer, Fort Wayne, IN, and his sisters, Ruth (Roger) Manns, Enon, OH and Mary (James) Stump, North Webster, IN.  A stepson Rob and (Jennifer) Potter, LasVegas, NV.

He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family celebration of Bob’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
